BLAWAN #1

And, my favourite song of 2012 is:

SHED-The Killer

One of my favourite records of 2012 is Shed's 'The Killer'. Murky, gritty, booming, dark dubbed out techno. Listen loud.

DRINKING ELECTRICITY

One of my favourite re-issues this year was Medical Records' reissue of Drinking Electricity's 'Overload+singles'. Originally released in 1982, it's a fine slab of minimal synth mixed with angular post punk. Can't really go wrong. My copy is number 180/650. Limited! Unlimited head gyrations.

New Yorker captions

I read the New Yorker every week (someone please buy me a subscription for Hannukah. The New Yorker costs $12.50 in Australia!)
The first thing I do is flip to the back, to the cartoon caption contest.
I'll start posting my captions.
I can't draw from memory. I can only draw what I see in front of me. I think this inhibits my chances of being a world classic cartoonist. That is a dream of mine. I put the R.in R.Crumb

FELIX KUBIN

Electronic music from Hamburg, Germany. Early 80's.
Makes me want a Korg MS-20 real bad.
My copy of 'Teenage Tapes'- a collection of Felix's early work, just arrived in the mail.

I also just bought this guitar today. So it should arrive in the mail next week.
I love getting mail.

Tea of the week- GYOKURO YAMASHIRO

Gyokuro is my favourite green tea.
It has a strong grassy flavour.
Gyokuro Yamashiro is shaded for 6-7 weeks prior to plucking, so it's dark, extra energizing and extremely rare outside of Japan.

C

Two bands I loved growing up; Codeine and Cranes.
I think I found out that Codeine was a legal downer drug, found in stomach ache tablets, that people took to get down, when I was 15. Then I heard the band Codeine and they sounded slow, like the drug, and I thought 'what a perfect name'. I love 'Frigid Stars A Lot'. I know it wasn't meant to be a record for teenagers. It really is quite sophisticated in it's simplicity. Somehow it made it's way into my 15 year old frame. I listened to this album so much when I was a sad teenager, in a lot of pain. It was my Codeine.

I've been listening to 'Forever' by Cranes a lot lately. It's made a comeback in my life. I couldn't listen to it for about 10 years, because it brought up so many crushing emotions for me. But, I'm realigned with it again. It truly is a beautiful piece of work.

Happy Halloween

Happy belated Halloween.
Hope you got crunked out on candy. Hard or soft, all textures welcome.
One of my favourite John Carpenter scores is Halloween III.

Oct 24th- big day

Today is my bat mitzvah anniversary. Wow, nearly 20 years ago, I officially became a woman. Not sure what that means exactly. Some days I feel like a woman. Other days I don't. I think I should have a bar mitzvah to balance things out.

I released a new song today; ELIXIR
http://soundcloud.com/house-of-romyo/elixir-1

Fatima Al Qidiri, who is probably the most exciting person making music these days, in my opinion, released her brilliant Desert Strike E.P today. Go and buy it. It's a masterpiece.

And last but not least, Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city also got released today.
Believe the hype, for once. It's true, Kendrick is the saviour of rap music. This is going mainstream and he just outright takes all the commercial rappers out there to school. Congratulations.

Sasha Go Hard

There are a lot of good girl rappers around right now.
Sasha Go Hard is one of my favourite. Chicago. Stripped back. Good tempo. "The honest truth". Young and Real. Nothing flashy, just real.

More silly drawings

I hope I can make you LOL

Soft drink cans/Omo

When I finished school in 1998, the world was different. Advertising was a dirty word. I was debating whether to go to college and study advertising, but to my angsty, anti mainstream/corporate manifesto, that would be selling out/working for the enemy etc, so I didn't. (I studied Media Communications and sound production)
Well, things have changed. Advertising is now art. I am able to look at it and appreciate it and understand the psychology behind it. I sometimes think it's purely art, not a consumerism ploy, and wonder 'how can people be affected by it's (subliminal) powers? How can someone see an ad for a coke and then be prompted to buy a coke"? But I guess, that's what it does.
Here are some soft drink cans (Australian 'soda's) which I jammed. Oh, and a bottle of Omo too
;)

My Drawings

So, I make music and draw. My drawings are mainly short little daily documentations,  or funny little word play vignettes. Well, I think they're funny. You can call them dad jokes.
I'm very impatient, so I don't spend much time on my drawings.
I'm going to hog this blog with my drawings now.
Here are some posters of some classic films, which I made. As you can see, I changed the titles to suit a common theme I am fond of: pain and suffering. I also happen to love cinema very much.

Crass/Avengers

Perfect punk rock.

Chris Marker

R.I.P Chris Marker.
'La Jette' would be in my top 10 films of all time, without a doubt.
Thank you for your work.
